Celtic-Inspired Men’s Sterling Silver Rings carry the “Luck of the Irish”

As we all know, there is one day of the year when everyone is Irish, but you don’t have to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day or drink green beer to appreciate Irish culture. Some guys are happy just wearing a sterling silver Claddagh ring or Celtic knot wedding band.  A perpetual favorite among men from all walks of life; these men’s sterling silver rings are so well-liked that they’re often worn in place of traditional wedding bands.

Jewelers who sell a lot of men’s sterling silver rings are often surprised at how many men purchase Celtic-inspired rings such as the Claddagh, Lionhead or Celtic Weave designs.  Perhaps they enjoy the rugged good looks of a Celtic ring, but more than likely they’ve also heard these rings bring good fortune to a marriage or romantic relationship.  When you learn about the traditions and symbolism of the Claddagh ring, you too may choose this classic Irish design.

The Claddagh ring depicts two hands surrounding one crowned heart, which is a symbol of loyalty, friendship and love.  Each symbol in its design depicts a different aspect of love – the hands mean friendship, the crown represents loyalty and the heart means love.  First created over 300 years ago in the tiny Irish fishing village of Claddagh, these men’s sterling silver rings are believed to be one of the best ways to bring good luck and happiness to a marriage.

 

In addition to the good fortune they bring, Claddagh rings can also be used to convey the wearer’s romantic “status”.  When worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward, it means the wearer’s heart is “open” and they are not in a romantic relationship.  When worn on the right hand with the heart facing inward, the wearer’s heart has been “captured”.  As a relationship gets more serious, the Claddagh ring is moved to the left ring finger.  On the left hand, the heart facing outward means the wearer is engaged, and an inward-facing heart means they are married.

Other types of Celtic men’s sterling silver rings include the intricately woven Celtic knot, Celtic weave or Celtic Spiral.  Oftentimes, these are all variations of the same design, in a woven or braided pattern that appears frequently throughout Irish culture. Depending on your taste, men’s sterling silver rings made in these designs can be casual, traditional or contemporary.  As a fashion ring, some men choose a spinner ring with a Celtic weave on the outer band, but when these braided patterns are worn as a wedding band they can have a much dressier look.

Surprisingly, while March is the favored month for celebrating Ireland’s patron saint, one Irish poem seems to suggest it is not the best month to marry – “…If you wed when March winds blow, Joy and sorrow both you’ll know.”  But don’t let this stop you from buying a <a href=”http://www.justmensrings.com/mensringcollections.asp?mensring=celtic”>Celtic men’s sterling silver ring</a> to wear on St. Patrick’s Day.   We could all use a bit of that Irish good luck!
